A Lower Austrian student won the „best foreign Chinese speaker“ contest on Chinese TV. Economics student Thomas Plesser From Mödling prevailed against 120 non-Chinese contestants from 60 countries and won the title „Best foreign Chinese“ and a scholarship in China. Thomas first won a speech contest at the Vienna University and was then invited to the Chinese Hunan province where he beat his competitors in a one-month-long casting. He said: „There was a written test and a talent show so I played the computer game Diablo and held a speech.“ As one of the 30 finalists in a typical Chinese TV show full of singing, dancing and jumping, Thomas had to dub a Chinese film with which he won the jury and the crowd’s hearts. He said: „It was about heroes and how they are to be judged. A slightly strange subject but it worked well.“ Thomas added he could imagine living and working in China for some years.
